GAY DEFENDER/PIONEER SCOUT GAY DEFENDER/PIONEER SCOUT WC, regular OR search current auctions Auction History Result 1p0068 GAY DEFENDER/PIONEER SCOUT WC 1928 different art of Richard Dix and Fred Thompson, rare! Date Sold 2/15/2022Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Movie Window Card (WC; measures 18" x 22 1/4" [46 x 57 cm]) (Learn More) the 1928 Stadium Theatre double-bill release of The Gay Defender, the 1927 Gregory La Cava silent Old California Gold Rush romantic adventure melodrama ("Story by Grover Jones"; Dix plays an "aristocratic youth" who turns into a "terrorizing night-riding Robin Hood") starring Richard Dix, Thelma Todd (in an early role), Fred Kohler, Jerry Mandy, and Robert Brower. Note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. AND Pioneer Scout, the 1928 Lloyd Ingraham & Alfred L. Werker silent cowboy western ("Story by Frank M. Clifton") starring Fred Thomson, Nora Lane, William Courtright, Tom Wilson (a large white man who specialized in playing black roles in the early silent days when studios were reluctant to hire African Americans; he would put burnt cork on his face and skin!; he appeared in The Kid, but not in a black role), and Charles Murray. Note that star Fred Thomson was a major silent cowboy star (along with Tom Mix), but he is forgotten today, because he tragically died of tetanus just when sound movies started. Surely there should be a film biography of his life (perhaps Johnny Depp could play the lead role!). Also note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare window card. We have never auctioned one in all our years of auctioning! Note also that this window card was never folded. Often window cards would be folded across the middle, because that would make them 11" x 14", and they could then be sent with standard folded posters. Most collectors put an added value on a window card that has never been folded. Condition: good to very good. The card has paper loss around the edges (see our image). It has some scuff marks and a few scratches. Please see our super-sized image to get a good sense of the condition of this item prior to placing a bid. Learn More about condition grades
