eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 5z056 THEATRICAL ADVERTISING HOLDER 11x16 advertising holder '40s to show what was playing, rare! Date Sold 4/13/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Advertising Holder (measures 11 1/4" x 16") (Learn More) a partly metal frame with a metal easel backing that was made by the Victor Cornelius company of Eastland, Texas, and sold to theaters in the 1940s. The frame holds an 11" x 14" piece of movie paper, so you might think it is designed for a lobby card, but it is not. A lobby card is horizontal, and this frame is for a vertical item. What went in it? In the 1940s, the Victor Cornelius company also made 11" x 14" "window cards" that were on thin paper, and were one-color, and they mostly advertised B-western movies. This holder was designed to hold those thin paper window cards. The theater would simply take out the old one and put in a new one every time they changed the movies they were showing. We have only once auctioned one of these holders, in 2017, and we would imagine they are quite rare (and the one we auctioned is in nice condition, with the original label from the company on the front and the original metal standee backing on the back). Important Added Info: Note that this item needs to be shipped in an oversized flat package. Some of these items can ONLY be sent in flat packages, and could not possibly be rolled into a tube. On some of them (for example f it is a size that might ordinarily be rolled in a tube, like a half-sheet), the reason it is in this auction is specifically because we feel it either CAN'T be rolled or because we feel it would be a mistake to roll it, because it might well damage the item. In the case of the few items that could be rolled, we will roll the item in a tube if the new owner insists, but only if they accept that they can't return the item if it is damaged from being rolled. So please bear in mind that this item must be sent in a LARGE flat package (the size of the package will depend on the size of the item), and bear this added expense in mind before placing a bid on it. Condition: very good. As noted above, this holder has all its original components and is in generally nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
