The Devil and Miss Jones, the 1941 Sam Wood New York City romantic comedy ("Invitation - Osculation - Complication - Inspiration - Indignation!"; "For folks who haven't laughed since 1929!"; "To Jean Arthur Fans, Special Notice! We know how many of you there are, and how fond you are of this delightful star. Condition: good. This poster was linenbacked, but it was either NOT linenbacked by a very talented restorer, OR it was linenbacked many years ago, and has received rough handling over the years, OR it had fairly significant defects that were not well restored. If it was restored, you can clearly see signs of the restoration even from a distance. This is a poster that would surely benefit from additional professional restoration. You can tell which of the above is the case for this particular poster by reading our "Pre-Restoration Defects & Quality of Restoration" description and also by looking at our "super-sized" image of the actual poster (we are the only major auction company we know of that gives accurate detailed pre-restoration information about linenbacked posters to our bidders, but we wish everyone did!).

The poster had rough creases along both foldlines and some creases, smudges, and tears in the borders, some slightly extending into the image. The person who backed the poster pretty much just mounted it on to the linen, and did some slight touch up to the folds, but there are a few unrestored spots, and nothing was done to disguise the tears in the borders (which are most significant in the top border). If I owned this poster, I would either have it re-backed, or have a restorer try to do additional touch up to the above defects without re-backing the poster. In any event, please do not bid on this poster unless you can accept its defects, or are willing to pay to have the poster re-restored!
