5 Original Vintage Theatrical 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Stills (Learn More)

Whoopee!, the 1930 Thornton Freeland romantic love triangle musical comedy ("A cyclonic comedy extravaganza!"; "From the musical comedy by William Anthony McGuire"; "Music by Walter Donaldson"; "Lyrics by Gus Kahn"; "All Technicolor"; produced by Florenz Ziegfeld and Samuel Goldwyn; about a girl who is engaged to a cowboy sheriff, but she secretly loves a half-breed Indian; she runs off with a hapless man, who thinks he is just giving her a ride, but she left her fiance a note that she eloped with the hapless man, and a wacky chase ensues!) starring Eddie Cantor, Ethel Shutta (a Broadway stage actress who appeared in this one movie, and then not again for 28 years!), Paul Gregory, Eleanor Hunt, Jack Rutherford, Dorothy Knapp, Jane Keithley, Betty Grable, Ann Sothern, Paulette Goddard, Dorothy Coonan Wellman
NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography.
Important Added Info: Note that these five stills were owned by director H. Bruce Humberstone (nicknamed "Lucky"). We previously auctioned other stills that were from his estate, and our consignor found these additional five stills from the same estate purchase (and he has no more). Humberstone was born in 1901 and he started as a juvenile actor, and in his teens, he became a script clerk, and then worked his way up to being an assistant director to many top directors, including King Vidor. In 1932, he directed his first movie, and he worked steadily through the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s, directing one last movie in 1961. He directed both "A" and "B" movies, including some Tarzan, Charlie Chan, Cisco Kid, and more, and some of his movies have cult status, including "I Wake Up Screaming"! Also, a knowledgeable collector tells us that the Goldwyn Girls group photo may feature a very young Betty Grable (on the horse at left), Ann Sothern, Paulette Goddard and Dorothy Coonan Wellman. Finally. note that we have pictured the backs of these stills (see our images).

Condition: very good to fine. The stills are in really nice condition!
