A 1948 Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Winter Carnival, the 1939 Charles Reisner snow skiing sports melodrama ("Youth hits the high spots..with the brakes off!"; "Breathless as a ski-flight... zippy as a bobsled on a mountain run... happy as a college yell!"; "It's the hottest thing that ever hit the ice!"; "Actually photographed at Dartmouth College in the heart of the glorious White Mountains!") starring Ann Sheridan ("in the season's gayest picture!"), Richard Carlson, Helen Parrish, Robert Armstrong, Virginia Gilmore, Alan Baldwin, Marsha Hunt, James Corner, and Robert Walker. Note that there is a fascinating, yet extremely sad, piece of trivia about this movie. Originally, legendary writer F. Scott Fitzgerald was assigned to write the movie. Author Budd Schulberg, son of former Paramount studio head B.P. Schulberg, was a co-writer, and when Fitzgerald showed up, Schulberg met him and had champagne that his father had given him, and the two got massively drunk! Schulberg did not know that Fitzgerald was a recovering alcoholic, and he made such a scene that both men were fired from the movie, and they are uncredited on any movie paper. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a very strange poster! In the mid-1940s, after Robert Mitchum became a major star, most of the studios pulled out any movies in which he had appeared in small roles (especially Hopalong Cassidy movies) and re-released them, given Mitchum star billing, even though he had only played bit parts! But this poster seems to take this deception one step further. This 1948 re-release of "Winter Carnival" lists Robert Mitchum as the third star, and yet we can't find any indication that he was connected with the movie in any way! In every other way, the poster has the same image as the first release poster, except for less color. If anyone knows why his name appears on this poster, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: very good. There is some tattering along the lower left edge of the poster. The poster is otherwise in pretty nice condition. Learn More about condition grades
