Founded in Paris during the Belle Epoque by Felix Juven, Le Rire appeared as typical Parisians began to achieve more education, income and leisure time. The satirical journal was filled with excellent drawings by prominent artists, and it featured full-page chromotypographs on both covers and in the centerfold (many of these pieces are now highly desirable collectibles). Someone took a two-page spread from a French book and removed those pages and had them linenbacked. The pages had some tiny paper loss across the middle. Overall, the pages were in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking.
