An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 10 1/2" x 15 1/2" [27 x 39 cm]; 12 pages) (Learn More)

The Teeth of the Tiger, the 1919 Chester Withey (billed as "Chet Withey") silent master thief crime mystery melodrama ("An Arsene Lupin story"; "The only clue to the murderer of Henry Forbes, the teeth marks on the apple"; in this movie, the former master thief turned detective is retired, but he goes to the house of his wealthy invalid friend, who fears for his life, but while he is there, the friend is killed, and of course, the house is filled with many suspects, all of whom had reason to want him dead, and the police are no help, but in the end, Arsene Lupin solves the murder, with the help of an apple found at the scene of the crime, with teeth marks of the murderer in it) starring David Powell (as Arsene Lupin), Marguerite Courtot, Templar Saxe, Myrtle Stedman, and Joseph Herbert. Note that the character Arsene Lupin was created by French author Maurice Leblanc in a magazine story in 1905, and the first movie version with this character was in 1909, but this was the first American feature with this master thief (he would be later played by John Barrymore in the classic 1932 movie). Also, note that this is a "lost" film which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist.

Important Added Info: Note that this is one of a remarkable group of 21 silent Paramount pressbooks that were in a bound volume. Each was carefully removed, so there is slight paper loss at the spine (and likely the other three borders were slightly trimmed to make them even, but only blank border areas were affected), and otherwise, most of the pressbooks are in really nice condition, although two have cuts, which are of course noted (and of course, the chances of finding these in any condition are very slim!). We are auctioning all 21 of these, in 21 separate auctions. Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut!

Condition: very good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. It was removed from a bound volume (see above). There are a few smudges in the white areas of the cover and a small tear in the border of the back cover. Otherwise, the pressbook is in really nice condition, and the pages are not at all fragile.
