An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Chapter #5 (The Striped Terror) One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) The King of the Jungle, the 1927 Webster Cullison silent jungle adventure thriller serial ("W. Ray Johnston Presents"; "The Serialplay Extraordinary") starring Elmo Lincoln (best remembered for being the very first actor to portray Tarzan in the movies in 1918), Sally Long, George Kotsonaros, Gordon Standing, Cliff Bowes, Virginia True Boardman, and Arthur Morrison. Note that actor Gordon Standing was mauled by a lion on-set and died the next day. Some feel that this is what lead Lincoln (his friend and co-star) to retire from show business until 1939, when he returned in mostly uncredited and bit parts. Also, it seems likely that the title of this serial was an attempt by the film-makers to cash in on Lincoln's Tarzan fame. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us. We have never auctioned even a single movie poster (only lobby cards) from this serial until we received this one-sheet! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and slight separation and a few tiny bits of paper loss on parts of the folds. It had paper loss in the blank corners, caused by rough removal of pins. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was nicely backed, and displays well!
