Date Sold 11/21/2017Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Undated (probably 1970s) Re-Release Theatrical Folded Military One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Kaiju Daisenso (released in other English-speaking countries as "Invasion of Astro-Monster" and "Godzilla vs Monster Zero"), the 1965 Ishiro Honda Toho Japanese kaiju battling rubbery monsters science fiction (sci-fi) thriller starring Godzilla (king of the monsters!), Rodan (the flying monster), King Ghidrah (the three-headed dragon monster), Nick Adams, Akira Takarada, Jun Tazaki, Kumi Mizuno, and Gary Graham. In this movie, Godzilla's look was made less severe and more friendly, befitting the protector that his character was becoming (although he still accidentally caused much damage on his own), and the film also featured the famous (or infamous) Godzilla "shie" victory dance! Also, note that this movie was made in Japan in 1965, but was not released in the U.S. until 1970 (it was released in some other countries between 1965 and 1970), and when it was released in the U.S. in 1970, it was not released by itself, but solely on a double-bill with "War of the Gargantuas" (and they put "ALL NEW" on the poster, because it WAS new to U.S. audiences in 1970). The delay seems to be related to the death of star Nick Adams and an internal business dispute with the U.S. distributors. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this is a very unusual poster, and a really cool collectible for someone wanting everything on this Japanese horror movie, because we have never auctioned this poster before! We think it is almost certainly a military one-sheet from the early 1970s (we have seen a very similar one to this from The Night of the Living Dead, and that one is likely from the same time period, and that poster has also only surfaced the one time!). Note that, whether intentionally or by mistake, this movie was re-titled "Invasion of the Astros", which to us makes it that much cooler! Military one-sheets were made to be used on U.S. military installations. They are most commonly seen from the early 1950s (during the Korean War) and from the late 1960s (during the Vietnam War). This one does not have the usual markings of a military poster at the bottom, but it has "RETURN TO SFRO AFTER PLAY DATE" stamped on the back, It also has a stamp on the back that reads "0 10 1", and the "0" at the beginning could certainly refer to 1970 (which would make sense given that the rating at lower left was generally used between 1970 and 1972.) If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Condition: very good. There are stamps on the back of the lower right border relating to it being a military poster that slightly bleeds through to the front in the blank border (see our image).
