He is perhaps best remembered for his marriage to Audrey Hepburn. Some of his movies include: Green Mansions, War and Peace, and Lili. He passed away in 2008 at the age of 90. Important Added Info: Note that this letter has been personally autographed (signed) by Mel Ferrer! Also note that this auction also includes the printed envelope this item originally came with! Note that this still was consigned to us by legendary collector/dealer Marty Davis! Marty was hired in 1972 to evaluate the entire collection of W. Ward Marsh (1893-1971), who was the film critic for the Cleveland Plain Dealer newspaper from 1919, until his retirement in 1970. In 1919 Marsh wrote his first of 23,000 movie reviews for the Plain Dealer. Marsh died less than a year after his retirement in 1970. His library, and photographic and memorabilia archives were given to the proprietor of Cleveland's finest bookstore. Marty Davis was the first person with a background in film history and collectibles to examine the archives. He worked for three to four hours a day, for six months, and his compensation was his pick of the archives. This letter is from the W. Ward Marsh archives, and it was sent by Mr. Ferrer on RKO stationery, thanking him for the nice review he wrote and telling him he is about to be in a Howard Hughes movie with Claudette Colbert and Robert Ryan, and that he hopes to see Mr. Marsh then. Mr. Davis does not have a certificate of authenticity, but the letter and signature are surely authentic. As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: very good.
