Note that both Durbin and Kelly made a major attempt to break out of their stereotyped characters they had played in the past, and both of them had dramatic roles in this ultra downbeat film noir movie, and Kelly played a psychopathic murderer (perhaps it was because Universal did not want viewers to expect a "Gene Kelly musical" that they did not depict Kelly on the style D one-sheet poster at all!)
