Date Sold 10/24/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla (released in other English-speaking countries as "Monster Meets The Gorilla"), the 1952 William Beaudine New York City science fiction (sci-fi) horror comedy ("Brooklyn chumps become island monkeys in a jungle full of laffs!"; "A horror film that will stiffen you with laughter!"; "A jungle full of Bali-laffs!!") starring Bela Lugosi, Duke Mitchell, Sammy Petrillo (Mitchell and Petrillo are billed as "Introducing Duke Mitchell, Sammy Petrillo"), Charlita, Muriel Landers, Ramona The Chimp, Ray Corrigan, and Steve Calvert (both Corrigan and Calvert were uncredited, but they shared the title role as the gorilla, wearing Corrigan's gorilla costume!). Note that Mitchell and Petrillo were intended to be an imitation of Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin (and Petrillo was even a Jerry Lewis lookalike), but their career really went nowhere! Also note that Crash Corrigan made a REALLY wise investment in the 1930s, when he bought a "gorilla suit". In many of the movies in the 1940s where there is a fake gorilla, it is played by Crash Corrigan, no doubt because he could supply the suit, and in this one movie, he also loaned his suit to Calvert, who used it in 11 other movies, playing uncredited gorillas! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this half-sheet, and it sold for $430! Also note that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: fair. The poster was in some sort of accident and it has a large jagged tear from lower left to upper center (see our image). That tear and some other ones that can be seen in our image are repaired with tape from the back some portions of the horizontal fold have separated, making this poster somewhat fragile. The poster is in need of restoration. Certainly a top restorer can repair the defects described above, and after, the poster will display really well, but please bear in mind the poster's many defects and the cost of restoration before placing a bid.
