An Original 1937 Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Sabotage (released in the U.S. in 1937 both under its original title and as "The Woman Alone"), the 1936 Alfred Hitchcock English detective mystery crime suspense thriller ("From the novel by Joseph Conrad"; about a group of saboteurs who are causing damage in London, and one of their gang runs a movie theater as a cover, and his wife and her brother help him run it, but they know nothing about the sabotage, and Scotland Yard sends a man to work next door to the theater to catch the gang) starring Sylvia Sidney (billed as "*courtesy of Walter Wanger Productions Inc."), Oscar Homolka, John Loder, Desmond Tester, Joyce Barbour, and William Dewhurst NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is an extremely rare title card! We have only auctioned one example of it in all our years of auctioning, and that was 7 years ago, and that example had had the title area cut out and replaced, and it auctioned for $410. Also note that this lobby card has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the lobby card was backed onto a very light paper backing (acid-free), that keeps the "feel" of the lobby card similar to that of the original lobby card. Some restorers prefer to paperback lobby cards on to a heavy backing, while others prefer to use a very lightweight backing. The advantage of a lightweight backing is that the card still "feels" like a regular lobby card, but a heavier backing makes restoration easier to do and less noticeable. Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good to very good. Prior to paperbacking, the card had a snipe glued over the original title area and the snipe was later removed, causing some surface paper loss in that area. It also had some tears around the edges, with some paper loss in the left blank border. It had a tear in the upper left that entered Sidney's hair and two tears in the top border that entered the top of Sidney's hair. There was surface paper loss that extended into Loder's hair and forehead that occurred when the snipe was removed. Aside from the above defects, the rest of the card was in pretty nice condition prior to restoration. Overall, it was in "good" condition prior to paperbacking. It was really expertly restored by a talented restorer and it displays really well, but looks closely at our super-sized images and carefully read the above before placing a bid on this card.
