Artist: Bob McCall Important Added Info: Note that MGM created two different subway posters for the very first release of this movie in Cinerama in 1968. This one has the Bob McCall space wheel art, and the other has Bob McCall art of astronauts on the moon. In addition, there is more than one version of THIS space wheel subway poster. The ones we have auctioned were consigned to us by a man who was in the graphic arts business in the 1960s, and he worked for the company that designed this poster. He saved several examples of it and has consigned them to us, including this poster. They all measure 43" x 59 1/2", but half of them have a tiny white border above the image at top, and half of them have a "full bleed", where the image extends to the edge of the paper. Since they came from a man who surely had access to printer's test posters, we think it is extremely likely that the studio created two different versions of this poster, so they could choose which one they preferred. But this man saved several of each, and since they almost surely were created at the same time, we feel they are clearly both from the first release. Offered here is the one with a full bleed in the top border. Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It has water staining in the left of the top border, but it is entirely in the white background area. It has a series of light creases scattered across the top border, with some extending into the image and tagline at left. It has a few creases in the left border. Other than the above, the poster is in really nice condition. After a simple linenbacking by a talented professional (during which time the water staining can be removed chemically), the poster will display wonderfully! Learn More about condition grades
