An Original Vintage Linenbacked World War I Poster (measures 39 1/4" x 55 3/4" [100 x 142 cm]) (Learn More) Put the Pennant Beside the Flag, Both Spell Victory, the 1917 U.S World War I (WWI) poster that solicited commercial carriers to use the services of the U.S. Shipping Board-Emergency Fleet Corporation (an emergency agency established in 1917 to regulate commercial carriers during the war). This poster features great artwork by Charles Buckles Falls of the U.S. Shipping Board pennant next to a 48-star U.S. flag Artist: Charles Buckles Falls Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had some minor border wear and some minor creases and scuffs scattered throughout. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. At some point after it was backed, it acquired a water stain in the bottom center (in the first "L" of "SPELL") and one near the middle right of the image (in the yellow area between the end of the red and blue), and a third water stain in the middle of the right (at the right center of the red and white flag). See our image for exactly where these stains are and how noticeable they are. I don't know how easy or difficult it would be to touch up those areas, and whether or not it could be done without re-backing the poster (although I can well imagine people displaying this cool poster just as it is), but please bear the above in mind before placing a bid on this poster.
