An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked French Movie Poster (measures 23 1/2" x 31 1/2") (Learn More) La Belle et la Bete (released in the U.S. in 1947 as "The Beauty and the Beast"), the classic 1946 Jean Cocteau French romantic fantasy adventure (based on the classic fairy tale by Madame Leprince de Beaumont; about a handsome prince who has a spell put on him that turns him into a beast, and he can't change back unless a beautiful woman loves him as he is!) starring Jean Marais (in a dual role as both la Bete and the Prince), Josette Day (in the title role as Belle), Mila Parely, Nane Germon, Michael Auclair, and Marcel Andre. Note that this movie had wonderful special effects (both by 1946 standards, and even by present day standards) and that it is one of the best loved fantasy movies of all time. In 1991, Walt Disney turned this into an animated feature length musical, and it has since been turned into a Broadway show and a live action movie, but this version still remains the best of all! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Malcles Important Added Info: Note that this French poster measures 23 1/2" x 31 1/2" and that it is linenbacked. Also note that this is a rare "country of origin" poster for this classic French fantasy movie! Condition: No condition recorded. This poster was linenbacked, and the restorer did a good job, but you can see signs of the restoration from inches away (since most people look at posters framed on a wall from at least a few feet away, we don't feel this is a defect, but we feel it should be noted). See below for this poster's pre-restoration condition (we are the only major auction company we know of that shares this information with our bidders, but we wish everyone did!). good to very good. There was paper loss in the top left corner extending into the edge of the black background. There was a tear running from the right of the top foldline (4" from the right edge of the poster) running down to the middle foldline (it goes through The Beast's hair. There are some faint scuffs in the solid black background areas. There was small paper loss at the crossfolds and some creases and small tears along the foldlines. There were some pinholes, tears, creases, and smudges around the edges of the poster. The poster was well restored, and its defects were well corrected. You can see signs of them from inches away, but from any distance the poster looks quite nice!
