An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36") (Learn More) Arch Oboler's Bwana Devil, the 1952 Arch Oboler ("The man who gave you 'Bwana Devil' and Radio's famed 'Lights Out'") 3-D (3D; 3-Dimension) adventure thriller ("The world's first feature length motion picture in 'natural vision 3 dimension'"; "A Lion in your lap!"; "A Lover in your arms!"; "You have never witnessed anything in the world like this before!"; "In thrilling color"; "3 Dimension"; director Oboler went to Africa in 1948 and teamed with a cameraman to film native people there, and it was that authentic African footage that was used in this movie; the movie is based on a real story from Kenya in 1898, where British railway workers were being attacked and eaten by lions, and the head engineer had to figure out how to stop the attacks, or he would not be able to hire workers!) starring Robert Stack, Barbara Britton, Nigel Bruce, Ramsay Hill, and Paul McVey. Note that the poster states that "Bwana Devil" was the first feature length 3-D movie, but some would argue that other films (such as "The Power of Love") would fit that description. However, "Bwana Devil" truly is the first mainstream feature length fictional film using the 3-D Technicolor process (there are some other movies that have a somewhat tenuous claim to being earlier, but most people generally accept this movie as the first feature 3-D movie!) Also, note that this movie premiered in 1952, but all the poster material we have seen is dated 1953. If anyone has ever seen any poster material dated 1952 please e-mail us! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this movie was originally in 3-D. The studios created both 3D posters and 2D posters (the 2-D posters were for theaters that lacked the 3-D equipment). This poster is from the "3-D" release. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster apparently once had a snipe over the "3 DIMENSION" area at center, and when the snipe was removed, it caused surface paper loss in the title area, and left glue residue. Otherwise, the poster was in pretty good condition prior to linenbacking, with just some smudges in the top blank border. It appears that the poster was first paperbacked, and then linenbacked (for no reason I know, but it doesn't seem to have hurt the poster in any way)! When the snipe was removed, there was surface paper loss in the letters of "3 DIMENSION", and those red letters have been entirely re-painted, and the background between the letters has had some slight touch up. Otherwise, the poster had slight blank border restoration. Learn More about condition grades
