CHARLIE CHAN IN BLACK MAGIC CHARLIE CHAN IN BLACK MAGIC LC OR search current auctions Auction History Result 1r163 CHARLIE CHAN IN BLACK MAGIC LC 1944 Sidney Toler with crystal ball w/Frances Chan & Beverly! Date Sold 11/8/2018Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Lobby Card (LC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More) Charlie Chan in Black Magic, the 1944 Phil Rosen detective mystery crime thriller ("Suggested by Earl Derr Biggers Character") starring Sidney Toler (in the title role "as Charlie Chan"), Mantan Moreland, Frances Chan (she was "Miss Chinatown" in Los Angeles, and she played Chan's "Number One Daughter" in place of the usual son!; she had a few minor appearances in other movies, but then retired to get married and had four children!), Joseph Crehan, Helen Beverly, and Jacqueline deWit. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! Important Added Info: Note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has. Condition: good to very good. There is a faint vertical scuff in the bottom center of the image, with a very few other tiny scuffs in the black background areas. Otherwise, the card is in nice condition. Note that this lobby card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back! Learn More about condition grades
