eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result JUKE JOINT 1sheet Appears in Attack of the B Movie PostersBOOK SOLD OUT The image at right appears in the book we published as shown above. While we once owned this item, we did not auction it through eMoviePoster.com (which is why no price or date is listed) nor do we have it available for purchase. Juke Joint, the 1947 Spencer Williams black African American comedy ("The joint Is jumpin' and everybody's happy and high!"; "The joint is jumpin'! The jive is jivvin'! The jam is jammin'! Holiday Family!"; "Original Story by True T. Thompson") starring July Jones, Spencer Williams, Inez Newell, Leonard Duncan, Dauphine Moore, Melody Duncan, Katherine Moore, Red Calhoun's Orchestra, The Jitterbug Johnnies with Mac and Ace, and Kit and Kat. Note that this movie was filmed in both San Antonio and Dallas, Texas, and also in "Harlemwood", New York, and it seems that the producers rounded up every all-black music act they could find to perform at the "joint" in this film, and it seems that all of those musical acts never made another movie! If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. Finally, note that the word "juke" originally meant "bad" or "wicked" (it was brought over by slaves from West Africa), and a "juke joint" was a place that served liquor or was a brothel, or had gambling, or some combination of the three! The word became used in mainstream language when machines that played records were called juke boxes, but the people who called them that did not know the origin of the word.
