An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Title Lobby Card (LC TC; measures 11" x 14" [28 x 36 cm]) (Learn More)

The Power and the Glory (released in France as "Thomas Garner"), the 1933 William K. Howard romantic story-of-a-man's-life-told-in-flashbacks melodrama ("The first Narratage production"; written by Preston Sturges; with cinematography by James Wong Howe; the movie begins with a man's death, and then his life is explored in a series of flashbacks; he had great financial success, but at the cost of happiness in his personal life; many people think that this movie was Orson Welles' inspiration for Citizen Kane's structure, as there are many parallels) starring Spencer Tracy, Colleen Moore, Ralph Morgan, Helen Vinson, Phillip Trent, and Henry Kolker

Important Added Info: Note that we have only previously auctioned one example of this title card, and that was in a complete set 23 years ago (that entire set sold for $2,300)!

For this movie and a few other movies Fox made in 1932 and 1933, they experimented with printing them on thin paper, rather than the regular thick paper stock. Surely this was done to economize during the Great Depression, but it is also quite likely that the theater owners did not like these "thin" paper lobby cards, and this experiment was abandoned (and this almost certainly explains why these cards are so rare, because they surely would have been damaged far more easily than thick paper lobby cards of the same period). Ironically, all the studios went to "thin" paper lobby cards in the 1940s, and that became the standard for lobby cards ever after. Also note that we have a scan of both the front and the back of this lobby card, which should greatly help you see what defects it has.

Condition: good to very good. There is faint brown staining in the borders, more so in the top and bottom. Note that this card is completely unrestored and there is not a single piece of tape on either the front or back!
