A Set of 40 Original Vintage German Ross Postcard (measures 5" x 7 3/4" [13 x 20 cm]; contained in an album that has 40 pages; see below) (Learn More) Die Nibelungen: Siegfried & Kriemhilds Rache (parts 1 & 2), the 1924 Fritz Lang German silent sword-and-sorcery fantasy adventure melodrama (this was a re-telling of the story of the greatest of ancient German folk heroes, Siegfried; Lang had so much material that he split it into two movies; both movies were scripted by Fritz Lang and long-time Lang collaborator Thea von Harbou) starring Paul Richter (in the title role as Siegfried), Margarete Schon (as Princess Kriemhild of Burgund), Hans Adalbert Schlettow (as Hagen of Tronje), Bernhard Goetzke (as Volker of Alzey), Gertrud Arnold (as Queen Ute of Burgund), Hanna Ralph (as Queen Brunhild of Isenland), Theodor Loos (as King Gunther of Burgund), Erwin Biswanger (as Giselher of Burgund), Hans Carl Muller (as Gerenot of Burgund), Fritz Alberti (as Dietrich of Bern), Georg August Koch (as Hildebrandt, the sword master), Rudolf Rittner (as Margrave Rudiger of Bechlarn), and Rudolf Klein-Rogge (as King Etzel) NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this is a very special album that we have never auctioned before! It looks similar to two other albums that were created for this Fritz Lang masterpiece, one measuring 10" x 13" and the other measuring 7" x 8". But those held the cigarette cards that were issued for this movie (a set of 75), while this album contains the 40 Ross postcards made for this movie. We have auctioned a number of the individual Ross postcards, but never before this special album that holds them all. Note that the album contains 40 pages, and the cards are NOT attached to the pages, but are inserted into slots designed to hold them (so they are not attached in any way and can be easily removed). In addition, the cover of the album has a trimmed Ross postcard glued to it with the title under it (see our image). It would likely take one years to assemble a complete set of the 40 cards, but it might take a lifetime to find another example of this album that holds them all! Also note that in the 1920s and 1930s in Germany, it became a common practice to pass out 3 1/2" x 5 1/2" "Ross postcards" to the people who attended a movie. These were postcards that people could send through the mail (each had a picture of one of the movie's stars on it, and standard postcard markings on the other side). But these were also sent to theaters where the stars would make personal appearances, and members of the audience would get the stars to autograph them if they could, but of course, the cards themselves did not come autographed! Condition: very good. The 40 cards within the album are in nice condition. The pages have some wear around the edges. The covers have much wear and the left edge of the trimmed Ross postcard glued to the cover is missing (approximately 1/2" x 2"). This cover inset was obviously created when the album was created, and it was surely done by taking an actual Ross postcard and trimming it to the space allotted. The other of this album located another example of the card that was used for the cover and it will be included with the album (so that the new owner could easily remove the glued on damaged card and replace it with a new nice condition example that they would trim from the extra card).
