Date Sold 3/31/2011Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage German Film Program (measures 9" x 11 1/2" [23 x 29 cm]; 8 pages) (Learn More) Olympia 1. Teil - Fest der Volker (released in the U.S. as "The Olympiad"), the 1938 Leni Riefenstahl (movie actress who became a director for Hitler and made "Triumph of the Will" and this film) German Olympic sports documentary featuring documentary footage of the Olympic events, which included the top athletes from Germany, but also from the other competing countries, including the black athletes from the U.S., most notably Jesse Owens and Ralph Metcalfe. Adolf Hitler appears in the movie, and there are additional sequences of athletes performing (some in the nude), which were filmed especially for this movie. Note that this documentary on the 1936 Berlin Olympics was so massive that it was released in two parts (the first part was "Olympia Part I: Festival of the Nations", and the second part was "Olympia Part II: Festival of Beauty"; so technically this movie should be referred to as "Festival of the Nations", but because most people know it under the title of "Olympia" or "Olympiad", we refer to it in that way). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: NOTE THAT THIS PROGRAM IS SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT THAN THE OTHER GERMAN OLYMPIAD PROGRAMS WE HAVE PREVIOUSLY AUCTIONED! This one is the same in every way except every page has solid blue borders on the left and right where the others have the same grey color in that area that is on the frame bordering the cover. It is possible that this program is from an earlier printing (perhaps a premiere?), but it is certainly also possible that it is from a later printing. If anyone knows more about this, please e-mail us and we will post it here. In any event, please do not bid on this program unless you can accept the uncertainty about the blue borders. Note that this program includes a page that depicts two female athletes performing nude, and we have been told that one or both of the women pictured is director Leni Riefenstahl! Note that this is a "country of origin" item for this German movie! Also note that we have pictured the front cover, the back cover, and an interior 2-page spread from this program. Note that on January 6th of this year we auctioned a mostly single owner collection of 551 German and Austrian programs, that included many rare and wonderful titles, but now we have been consigned (from a new consignor) 128 German and Austrian programs which include some programs that are duplicates of ones we auctioned on January 6th, but which also includes a large number of programs which we have never auctioned before, including many rare and wonderful titles (especially super-rare pre-World War II titles from both countries, and some scarce titles from during World War II and from immediately after)! If you have the slightest interest in these, be sure to look over all of the 128 programs we are currently offering. We promise you won't be disappointed! Condition: good. The program was folded once in each direction and there are many creases and scuffs scattered throughout. Learn More about condition grades
