An Original 1955 (from the first release of this film in Italy) Theatrical Paperbacked Italian One-Panel (known in Italy as a "2 Fogli") Movie Poster (1p; measures 39" x 55" [99 x 140 cm]) (Learn More) Ladies of the Chorus, the 1948 Phil Karlson romantic chorus girl musical ("The love secrets of the Ladies Of The Chorus"; "See the dollies from the follies turn the bluebloods into redbloods!"; "Screenplay by Harry Sauber and Joseph Carole"; "It's most revealing... what burlesque babes will do to get their man!") starring Adele Jergens, Marilyn Monroe (very young in this role!), Rand Brooks, Nana Bryant, Eddie Garr, Steven Geray, and The Bobby True Trio NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Angelo Cesselon Important Added Info: Note that Marilyn Monroe had been pretty unknown when this movie was first released in 1948, and was barely promoted in any way on the original movie paper. In 1952, at the height of her popularity, this movie was re-released in the U.S., giving her huge billing over the title. Three years later in Italy, it was released for the first time with a one-panel poster with incredible art of Marilyn by Angelo Cesselon. We have never auctioned this wonderful poster before! Note that this poster has been paperbacked. What is paperbacking? This means the poster was backed onto a light paper backing (acid-free), that is similar in feel to that of the original poster (it means that the poster must be handled carefully, as the backing does not give it much added strength, but it is similar to having an unrestored poster, and yet it has been properly preserved). It is a similar process to linenbacking, except that most collectors use linenbacking for one-sheets and paperbacking for half-sheets, inserts, window cards. Note that it is difficult to accurately date Italian posters, and some unmarked re-release posters can be extremely difficult to distinguish from first releases, so please bear that in mind before you place a bid. We used our best information to date this poster, but we can't always guarantee that the Italian posters we sell are not from an unmarked re-release, but this will only prove to be true in a very tiny number of cases. What IS paperbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. Prior to paperbacking, the poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds. It had tack holes and stains around the edges, with a few tack holes scattered in the image. It had minor wear on the folds and paper loss in the bottom right blank corner, and some small areas of paper loss in the bottom left blank corner, and some of the tack holes in the blank borders were enlarged. Someone had the poster paperbacked, and the restorer did very minimal restoration to the above defects, pretty much leaving alone the blank borders, except to replace the missing paper. No doubt, they felt the borders will not show when the poster is framed and I am sure they were right. The poster will look magnificent on anyone's wall exactly as it is, or certainly, one could choose to have it linenbacked and perform restoration to the blank border defects. Either way, I envy the new owner of this wonderful poster! Learn More about condition grades
