An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 11" x 16" [28 x 41 cm]; 12 pages) (Learn More)

Huckleberry Finn, the 1920 William Desmond Taylor silent juvenile adventure comedy ("A New Mark Twain - Paramount Artcraft Picture"; based on the novel 'The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn' by Mark Twain) starring Lewis Sargent (in the title role as Huckleberry Finn), Katherine Griffith, Martha Mattox, Frank Lanning, Orral Humphrey, Gordon Griffith (as Tom Sawyer), George Reed (as Jim), Thelma Salter (as Becky Thatcher), and Esther Ralston (as Mary Jane Wilks). Note that this was the third of William Desmond Taylor's trilogy of films based on Mark Train's famous most famous characters (the very first screen adaptations from this book). The first was 1917's "Tom Sawyer", with Jack Pickford in the lead, and Robert Gordon as Huck Finn. The second was 1918's "Huck and Tom". This one, the third one, was made two more years later, and since Robert Gordon and Jack Pickford were now both painfully far too old to play teenagers, Lewis Sargent and Gordon Griffith took over the roles of Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer.

Important Added Info: Note that ANY movie paper from this movie is incredibly rare. We have only previously auctioned a half-sheet, a lobby card, a few stills, and a glass slide from this movie (and NO other movie paper of any kind) until we received this pressbook! Also note that this is one of a pretty remarkable group of 12 incredibly rare pressbooks that date from 1917 to 1920! This is from the time period when pressbooks were first made, and it is even before the time that inserts or half-sheets were made! Pressbooks from this time period are among the rarest movie paper collectibles there are. These were all consigned to us from a man who collected for many decades, and it is a far greater number of pressbooks from this period than we have ever auctioned in all our years of auctioning! Also note that we have provided an image of the front and back covers of this pressbook (if the back cover is not the poster page, we photographed the interior poster page), and of course, the winner of this auction will receive the entire single pressbook we are auctioning (plus any supplements or heralds described above)! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners received pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut!

Condition: good to very good, NO CUTS. The pressbook is complete and uncut. It was folded across the middle. There are two distributor stamps at the top and bottom of both covers, with some smudges and scuffs scattered on the front cover, and small separation at the right end of the horizontal fold.
