She was born Myrna Adele Williams in 1905, and amazingly, she made 78 movies between 1925 and 1933, and she FINALLY got her big break when she signed with MGM, and the next year she made both "The Thin Man" and "Manhattan Melodrama", and the rest, as they say, was history! But what took Hollywood and film goers so long to recognize her amazing beauty and talent? In her early years of making movies, her "exotic" look led her to sometimes be cast as an Asian or Polynesian! She remained a major box office star for over two decades, and she had wonderful chemistry with ALL of her leading men, including William Powell, Cary Grant, Clark Gable, and many others! Some of her other movies include: The Best Years of Our Lives, Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House, The Thin Man, Cheaper By the Dozen, and countless others. She passed away in 1993 at the age of 88 AND Conrad Nagel was an actor from the 1910s to the 1940s. While never a major star, he had leading roles opposite some of the top silent female stars, including Gloria Swanson,Bebe Daniels, and Pola Negri. Unlike many of his fellow actors, he had no trouble making the transition to sound movies. In fact, in the early sound days, he was hired by studios to help actors who were having trouble adjusting! He kept acting through 1940, and then he had a limited number of appearances in the 1940s and 1950s. He was one of the founding members of the Motion Picture Academy, and he has three stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and he was awarded a special Oscar in 1947! Some of his movies include: Fast Life, London After Midnight, and Quality Street. He passed away in 1970 at the age of 72. Important Added Info: Note that this really cool candid still was made when two of the World Series Champion Pittsburgh Pirates baseball players, George Grantham and Lee "Specs" Meadows were visiting Hollywood, and they went to Warner Bros., where Myrna Loy and Conrad Nagel let them pretend to be a director and cameraman while they danced together, likely when they were making "State Street Sadie" in 1928! Note that in our last set of auctions that include multiple stills from single titles, we had 72 sets of stills that came from a wonderful group of just-discovered stills that are from 1927 to 1929, with the majority from 1928 exactly. Now, we are auctioning the remaining stills from this wonderful group, 131, all in separate auctions. In addition to them including a LOT of previously unseen stills (and sometimes from incredibly rare titles!), most of these stills have either snipes on the bottom or back, and many have some pencil writing on the back about the movie or actors. After these stills are auctioned, there will be no more stills from this wonderful collection! Condition: very good. There is tiny paper loss in the upper right blank border. Otherwise, the still is in nice condition. The snipe became separated at one time and someone taped it to the back of the center of the news photo (the snipe is also extremely fragile).
