An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Glass Slide (measures 3 1/4" x 4" [8 x 10 cm]) (Learn More) The Apostle of Vengeance, the 1916 William S. Hart & Clifford Smith silent Vermont feuding families melodrama (story by Monte Katterjohn; in this, Hart plays a minister who returns to his small home town in Vermont, where his family, the Hudsons, are feuding with a rival family, the McCoys, and he tries to make peace between them, and his family throws him out, and he lives by himself, but when one of the rival family members attacks his young sister, he is spurred to action and almost kills the man, but he stops himself in time, and that act enables both families to set aside their feud) starring William S. Hart, Nona Thomas, Joseph J. Dowling, Fanny Midgley, and John Gilbert (billed as "Jack Gilbert"). Note that John Gilbert was billed as "Jack Gilbert" in this movie (which is how he was billed in movies at this time). He had uncredited roles in 1915 and then had credited roles in 1916, but he still spent the next several years not achieving major stardom. One of his first major roles was in 1922 when he starred in an early version of "The Count of Monte Cristo". Of course, he would become a top star of the mid 1920s, and then he would co-star with a very young Greta Garbo, and the rest, as they say, is history. Note that this is a "lost" film, which means that no surviving copies are thought to exist. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that glass slides were designed to be put in a special projector that would project the image onto a movie screen (they use exactly the same concept as 35mm slides). This slide is the kind that has two panes of glass that are taped together with black tape around all four edges (front and back), typical of many older glass slides. We have provided a high quality scan of the image, but we have not taken a photo of the slide, because there would really be very little to see! Condition: very good. The theater that used this slide wrote the days the movie was playing in the play dates section at the bottom of the glass. Learn More about condition grades
