Dire Straits were a British rock 'n' roll (rock and roll) band that from 1977 to 1995. Their biggest-selling album, 1985's Brothers in Arms, has sold over 30 million copies, and was the first album to sell a million copies on the then-new compact disc (CD) format. The band became one of the world's most commercially successful, with worldwide records sales of over 100 million, they have won four Grammy Awards, three Brit Awards, two MTV Video Music Awards, and various other music awards. Dire Straits will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018.
