He is a two-time World Series of Poker Main Event champion, as well as a Poker Hall of Fame Inductee, and the author of several books about the game. He was on his way to becoming a professional basketball player after college when his leg was crushed, and that ended his sports career, but it began the most remarkable poker career of any player ever. As of this writing, 2017, he is still alive at the age of 84, all the more remarkable because of his medical history, which included surviving cancer. He is the last of the poker legends of the 1960s who is still around, though he retired in 2018. As of 2021, Brunson is still alive at the age of 87!
