An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Argentinean Movie Poster (measures 27 3/4" x 41 1/2" [70 x 105 cm]) (Learn More) Victor Hugo's Les Miserables, the classic 1935 Richard Boleslawski epic prisoner-on-the-run-hunted-throughout-the-years melodrama ("The greatest human story ever written becomes a screen triumph awaited by millions"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award; based on the French novel by Victor Hugo, which was also the source for the long-running Broadway play; produced by Darryl F. Zanuck) starring Fredric March (as Jean Valjean), Charles Laughton (as Inspector Javert), Sir Cedric Hardwicke (as Bishop Bienvenu), Rochelle Hudson (as Cosette), Frances Drake (as Eponine), Florence Eldridge (as Fantine), John Beal (as Marius), Ferdinand Gottschalk (as Thenardier), Vernon Downing (as Brissac), and John Carradine. Note that there was a 1980 French musical stage play adapted from this classic book and movie, but it did not do well. In 1985, it was significantly expanded and changed into an English language play, which has gone on to become one of the most successful plays of all time, in London, on Broadway, and all over the world! It was distributed by United Artists that year. Later that year, 20th Century Pictures was bought by Fox Film, and the combined company became 20th Century-Fox. The movie was then released as a 20th Century-Fox movie. We don't know if this occurred in late 1935, or in the later 1930s. If it was the former, then the 20th Century-Fox release would be from the continuous first release. But if it is from the later 1930s, it is a re-release. To be safe, we are calling the 20th Century-Fox release "R30s". HOWEVER, THIS POSTER IS THE VERY RARE FIRST RELEASE POSTER FROM 1935 (from 20th Century Pictures and United Artists).
