An Original Vintage Theatrical Unfolded Style A Half-Sheet Movie Poster (1/2sh; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) Dashiell Hammett's The Glass Key, the 1942 Stuart Heisler politics corruption romantic love triangle detective mystery crime film noir ("The man with the gun for hire gets a new boss... but the same girl!"; "The tougher they are - the harder they fall"; "Based on the Novel by Dashiell Hammett"; about a crooked politician who refuses help from a gangster, and then he finds himself accused of a murder he did not commit) starring Brian Donlevy ("He's rough"), Veronica Lake ("She's dynamite"), Alan Ladd ("He's tough"), William Bendix, Bonita Granville, Richard Denning, and Joseph Calleia NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this half-sheet! It is far more rare than any of the other first release posters from this movie, which themselves are also rare, having been produced during World War II, when there were paper shortages. There is an oddity about this half-sheet. Ladd is billed second, while he is billed third on the one-sheet and three-sheet. We suspect it is because of the taglines they used that describe Donlevy as "rough" and Ladd as "tough", and Lake as "dynamite", and they wanted it to read "he's rough, he's tough, she's dynamite", and the only way to do that was to move Ladd up in the billing, which we are sure he was very grateful for! Condition: good to very good. The poster was never folded. It had a series of tears near the middle of the right border, with some entering the blue background. It has a 2" tear in the bottom border entering the end of Calleia's credit with tiny surface paper loss. It has a 3" tear in the middle of the left border and a small tear in the upper left border. It has some darkening in the borders, more so in the left of the bottom border. It has paper loss in the top right corner, but solely in the white area. Someone years ago put tape on the back of the above defects and taped a piece of blank paper to the top right corner. But almost all of the defects are in the blank borders, with a little bit in the blue area to the left of the middle of the right border. The image area is in really nice condition, especially the images of the stars, and the title has a few faint scuffs. If I owned this wonderful poster, I would have a professional remove the tape from the back and properly restore it, and afterwards, it will display incredibly, and require almost no paint anywhere in the image, except in the far right blue area described above.
