A 1953 Re-Release Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Style A One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Suspicion, the 1941 Alfred Hitchcock crime film noir mystery thriller ("Each time they kissed... There was the thrill of love... The threat of murder!"; "She won your heart in 'Rebecca'! He drew your cheers in 'Philadelphia Story'. Thrill to them together in a suspense-romance directed by the man who did 'Rebecca'"; "Screen play by Samson Raphaelson, Joan Harrison, Alma Reville [Hitchcock's wife]"; "Based on the novel 'Before the Fact' by Francis Iles"; nominated for the Best Picture Academy Award) starring Cary Grant, Joan Fontaine (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Sir Cedric Hardwicke, Nigel Bruce, Dame May Whitty, Lumsden Hare, Vernon Downing, and Auriol Lee. Note that there is controversy about the ending of this movie! Many people say that Hitchcock intended the movie to end with Grant killing Fontaine, and that the studio insisted that he change it (to preserve Grant's positive public image), but others say that this is an urban legend, and that the movie was always intended to end the way it did! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that original 1941 U.S. posters from this title are quite rare! It is probably because the movie was re-released in both 1953 and in 1957, and it is likely that poster exchanges used up all of their 1941 posters during those re-releases. So for the vast majority of collectors, the only way to get an early poster on this movie is to get one from a 1950s re-release, and this 1953 re-release one-sheet actually has a much superior image and tagline to that of the original poster (which has a smaller image and no tagline) What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: very good. The poster had tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and some tiny tears and tiny bits of surface paper loss on parts of the vertical foldline, with a lesser amount of wear on the horizontal folds. There were some pinholes around the edges. Overall, the poster was in very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above, but they are really not very distracting (and a talented restorer could touch them up without re-backing the poster).
