An Original Vintage Calendar (measures 4 3/4" x 10" [12 x 25 cm]) (Learn More) Earl Moran was a pin-up and glamour artist from the 1930s to the 1980s. Moran signed an exclusive contract with Brown and Bigelow in 1932, and by 1937 his pinups had sold millions of calendars for the company. In 1940, Life ran a feature article entitled "Speaking of Pictures" which mostly focused on Moran's work and made him a celebrity. In 1946, Moran moved to Hollywood and soon after his arrival, he interviewed a young starlet named Norma Jeane Dougherty who wanted to model for him. For the next four years, Marilyn Monroe posed for Moran and the two became friends. Some of the celebrities he painted include: Betty Grable, Joan Crawford, and of course Marilyn Monroe. He passed away in 1984 at the age of 90. Artist: Earl Moran Important Added Info: Note that this really cool promotional calendar is from 1947, and it was created for a printing company by Brown & Bigelow (it had a partial calendar on the bottom and the printing company sent it to their customers). It has a die-cut image of a pretty girl, which is perforated, and demonstrates the kind of printing this company did. The art is by Earl Moran, and the model he used was Marilyn Monroe (but this is from before she became famous). This is from the time when she posed for Earl Moran in 1948 and 1949 (right before she became famous), and you can certainly tell that she was the model, and the art is fantastic! Condition: very good to fine. Learn More about condition grades
