An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Six-Sheet Movie Poster (6sh; measures 81" x 81" [206 x 206 cm]) (Learn More) Moon Over Miami, the 1941 Walter Lang Florida Everglades romantic musical ("Adaptation by George Seaton and Lynn Starling from a play by Stephen Powys"; "Lyrics and Music by Leo Robin & Ralph Rainger"; about two Texas girls losing an inheritance because of taxes and they travel to Miami to find rich husbands) starring Don Ameche, Betty Grable, Robert Cummings (Bob Cummings), Charlotte Greenwood, Jack Haley, Carole Landis, Cobina Wright Jr., Fortunio Bonanova, and Jack Cole. Note that Alberto Vargas did the artwork for the cover of the pressbook and the 24-sheet only on this movie, and both bear his signature. The pressbook explains that Vargas was commissioned to paint this image. Nowhere does it state that he did any of the other art for the movie, even though one of the one-sheets and the insert are often described as being Vargas art. It is my opinion that they are NOT drawn by Vargas, and certainly the pressbook backs that up. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Isip (spelling?) Important Added Info: Note that Alberto Vargas (billed as "Esqure's famed VARGA") did the artwork for the 24-sheet and the cover of the pressbook only, and both bear his signature. The pressbook explains that Vargas was commissioned to paint this one image, and all of the other posters for the movie were created by other illustrators who did so "in the Vargas style" (and the one-sheet and insert that are often incorrectly attributed to Vargas were not drawn by him). This six-sheet's art is signed by what appears to be "Isip", but we don't know who that artist is, or if it is spelled correctly. Certainly, this poster has incredible artwork that absolutely is "in the Vargas style", and we have never seen or heard of this poster before. If anyone knows who did the art, please e-mail us and we will post it here. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: fair to good. The poster had a huge number of creases and tears scattered throughout. There were some areas of paper loss scattered in the poster and many faint smudges and stains. Someone simply had the poster backed onto linen with no restoration. The defects are not as noticeable in Grable's figure as they are in the rest of the poster (they are extremely noticeable in the white background areas, and in person they are more noticeable than they are, even in our supersized image), but if I owned this poster, I would certainly have it re-backed by a talented professional, but that would be expensive, and it would surely require a lot of expert paint restoration (the amount of that would be determined by how the person chose to re-restore the poster). Please bear all of this in mind before placing a bid on this poster. While one would certainly prefer to find a better example of this poster, it is extremely likely that no other example of it exists, and it seems pretty amazing to me that it exists at all!
