Carnival Season Poster, the 1950s German poster promoting the carnival season. Note that this poster was produced by the beer brewing industry, and featured art of beer by Th. Abeking. Note that this is a Sachplakat poster. The term Sachplakat, or Object Poster, was coined in Germany around 1905 to describe a new type of poster which featured a realistic depiction of the product and little else. The craze for this poster type continued in Switzerland, where the passion for precision in printing and drawing technique was unsurpassed. Shortly after, the iconic beauty of the everyday object became the mission of a group of artists in Basel, who made the Sachplakat the leading Swiss style in the '40s and early '50s. Often laced with humor and of stunning visual impact, these posters represent the last great period of the lithographic poster, which high cost and long production cycles was soon to eliminate.
Artist: Th. Abeking
Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this cool poster!

Condition: very good to fine. The poster was never folded. It has a few extremely tiny tears in the lower right blank border, but is otherwise in really nice condition!
