An Autographed Deluxe 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Publicity Still (Learn More) Gilbert Roland (born Luis Antonio Damaso de Alonso) was a Mexican actor from the 1920s to the 1980s. His father was a bullfighter, and he planned to be the same, but he caught the acting bug! He got his screen name by combining the names of his favorite actors, John Gilbert and Ruth Roland! Because of his Mexican heritage, he often played "ethnic" roles, but he was a leading man in the 1920s, and continued to have starring roles for decades, and he seemingly never aged, looking much the same in the 1950s as he had in the 1920s. And he lived to age 89, passing away in 1994, while almost all of his contemporary male stars passed away in their 50s and 60s (and he, like almost all of them, was a heavy smoker). He must have had incredible genes! Some of his movies include: The Last Train from Madrid, Malaya, and The Sea Hawk Important Added Info: Note that this still has been personally autographed (signed) by Gilbert Roland! Also note that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock. Finally, note that many celebrities kept multiple 8" x 10" (or smaller) copies of good publicity images of themselves to sign for fans, and also many memorabilia shops sold such copy stills themselves. While they are not original theater-used stills, they are usually excellent clear copies, with a great shot of that celebrity in their heyday, which, when signed by the celebrity, makes for a wonderful framed picture on any fan's wall! Note that our consignor purchased a collection of autographed stills that were collected by Leonard Sorgi, who was a unit manager for ABC for shows like The Soupy Sales Show, The Jerry Mahony Show, and many others. He was also Unit Manager for the Academy Awards for a number of years, and during his long and varied career, he met many celebrities and obtained autographs from them in person (often personalized to him). Our consignor (and we) feel certain that the autograph on this still is authentic! As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes.
