An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded Australian Daybill Movie Poster (db; measures 13 1/4" x 30" [34 x 76 cm]) (Learn More) Two Years Before the Mast, the 1946 John Farrow high seas sailor swashbuckling pirate adventure thriller ("The world famous novel on the screen at last!"; "Based on the novel by Richard Henry Dana Jr."; about a man who is shanghaied onto a ship run by a sadistic captain; based on the true story which was turned into a novel by Richard Henry Dana, the man who was shanghaied) starring Alan Ladd, Brian Donlevy (as Richard Henry Dana), William Bendix, Barry Fitzgerald, Howard da Silva, Esther Fernandez, Albert Dekker, Luis Van Rooten, and Darryl Hickman. Note that Esther Fernandez was a popular Mexican actress who had never appeared in an American movie, and could barely speak English. But she was signed to appear in this movie (because they needed a pretty woman in a cast of all rough men), and she made this sole appearance, and then returned to Mexico. However, when this movie was released in an English/Spanish version for Spanish speaking audiences, Fernandez was bumped up to second billing under Alan Ladd! This was likely done to please Latin American audiences who were a major demographic during World War II. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Condition: very good. There are some light diagonal creases at the left edge of the upper horizontal fold and there are tiny creases around the edges. It is otherwise in generally nice condition!
