eMoviePoster.comAuction History Result 9h048 GREAT WALT DISNEY FESTIVAL OF HITS pressbook '40 Snow White + 4 great cartoon shorts! Date Sold 8/21/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Movie Pressbook (pb; measures 12" x 18" [30 x 46 cm]; 8 pages) (Learn More) The Great Walt Disney Festival of Hits, the 1940 compilation release of five of Walt Disney's greatest animated animation cartoons ("Laugh! Sing! Shout with joy! Here comes the fun treat of the year!"; "Glorious entertainment!"; "Combined on one glorious bill"; "Combined! In one big feast of glorious entertainment!"; "Here they are! The greatest pictures Disney ever made!"). The five movies that were shown in this "five bill" were: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs ("Hit No. 1"), Ferdinand, The Bull ("Hit No. 2"), Three Little Pigs in The Practical Pig ("Hit No. 3"), The Ugly Duckling ("Hit No. 4"), and Donald's Lucky Day ("Hit No. 5"). Note that original movie paper from this "five bill" is INCREDIBLY rare, far more rare than that of Snow White's first release (likely because this compilation release only played in a limited number of theaters). We have seen the pressbook, so we know that a full set of movie paper was created for this release (including a full set of 8 lobby cards), but very few posters or lobby cards have ever surfaced! We also know from the pressbook that four of the lobby cards are from Snow White, and that the other four cards are one each from the other four titles! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Important Added Info: Note that this pressbook is for an unusual five-bill of Snow White, plus four cartoons. The cover of the pressbook is "A FULL-COLOR REPRODUCTION OF THE ONE-SHEET" (terminology we have never seen on any other Disney pressbook). Note that this pressbook (along with 14 others) comes from the remarkable collection described below. The 15 pressbooks include ones from both Disney shorts and Disney features from the very late 1930s and the early 1940s. All of them are incredibly rare and are almost never offered for sale (to give you a sense of how incredibly rare they are, we at eMoviePoster.com have only previously auctioned three of them). More remarkably, all of the 15 are complete and uncut and most are in wonderful condition. It will surely be a long time before even a few of these are offered at auction again! Note that this item, along with many others, has a wonderful provenance! It comes from a remarkable collection of original 1940s Walt Disney pressbooks, mini lobby cards, and standees that just surfaced! Not only are all of these items extremely rare ones that are hardly ever auctioned, but they almost all are in really nice condition. The origin of these items is even more fascinating. Our consignor attended these movies as a young boy (he is currently over 80!), and a kindly theater owner gave him these items, and he has carefully preserved them all these many years, until now, when he has consigned them directly to us! We previously auctioned the original stills he had in our auction in May of 2016, and now we are auctioning the rest of his items. This is an incredibly rare opportunity to obtain some of the finest Disney pressbooks, mini lobby cards, and standees we have ever seen, and all of them will have new owners when these auctions close, because all start at $1 with no reserve. In addition to the items from this man's collection (saved from when it was a little boy over 70 years ago!), we also gathered together lots of other rare animation related movie paper items of all types, and together this is a wonderful offering of movie animation items! Many of these items will likely not be auctioned again for many years to come! Also note that this pressbook is complete and uncut! Given that theater owners purchased pressbooks partly in order to create their newspaper advertising, and quite frequently cut them up for that purpose, it is rare to find a pressbook that IS complete and uncut! Condition: very good, NO CUTS. This large pressbook (12" x 18") is complete and uncut and was never folded across the middle, which is a big plus, because most of these large pressbooks WERE folded across the middle (so they would fit with posters or lobby cards). There are many faint smudges around the edges of the cover, and a few in the top center, but otherwise, the pressbook is in pretty nice condition! Learn More about condition grades
