In the dramatic, eventful love story of a man who wrote the songs the nation took to its heart!"; "21 Hit Songs! 20 Hollywood Stars!"; "From the Book by Elliot Arnold"; "Based on the Life and the Melodies of Sigmund Romberg"; the movie had a framework plot, but it was really just an excuse to present 11 different song and dance numbers from 11 Broadway shows!) starring Jose Ferrer (as Sigmund Romberg), Merle Oberon, Helen Traubel, (and a cast of MGM "guest stars" including) Walter Pidgeon, Paul Henreid, Rosemary Clooney, Gene Kelly, Fred Kelly (billed as "Gene & Fred Kelly"), Jane Powell, Vic Damone, Ann Miller, Cyd Charisse, Howard Keel, Tony Martin, Doe Avedon, Tamara Toumanova, Paul Stewart, Isobel Elsom, William Olvis, and James Mitchell.
