An Original Vintage Theatrical Window Card Movie Poster (measures 14" x 21") (Learn More) Hud, the classic 1963 Martin Ritt (nominated for the Best Director Academy Award for this film) Texas family relationship modern-day-cowboy cattle rancher melodrama ("Paul Newman is 'HUD'! The man with the barbed wire soul!"; "Why 'Hud'?"; "Because of the unusual nature of this film we will not reveal the story"; "From a novel by Larry McMurtry"; about one of the screen's all time greatest heels, Hud Bannon, superlatively played by Paul Newman who was robbed of an Oscar) starring Paul Newman (nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award for this film; in the title role as Hud), Melvyn Douglas (winner of the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film), Patricia Neal (winner of the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), Brandon DeWilde, and Whit Bissell. Note that this movie was originally titled "Hud Bannon", but the title was shortened to simply "Hud". Paramount was worried about how the movie would do, especially because its central character was such an unlikable person, and they created a VERY unusual ad campaign, starting with a 24-sheet that solely showed an image of Newman in a small part of it, with the words "Why Hud?", and much of the 24-sheet blank. They wanted to create a mystery as to what the movie was about, in the hopes that people would not have preconceived notions and go see it, feeling that once they did, they would recognize what a quality movie it was, and this marketing strategy obviously worked, because the movie was very successful! Please do not bid on this poster thinking it is 14" x 22". Condition: good. bottom border has been trimmed off, otherwise the card is in nice condition! This window card is in "lesser" condition (it is clearly in less than "very good" condition, and may be all the way down to "fair" condition, as we are selling a collection of early window cards that were found inside of a wall, and those all have water stains and other defects, which should be easily seen on our large images)! This window card has clear defects, which are likely to be very noticeable in our "large" or "super-sized" images that you can click on from our small image at right. In addition, we have also noted in words what these defects are in our "Description of Defects" section above, as some of these defects may not be all that visible in the images. We know that some collectors could accept this window card's defects, and display it as is, and we also know that many collectors would only be happy with this window card if they had it restored, so please do not bid on it unless you can accept it as it is, or are willing to pay to have it properly restored. Of course, you should realize that if you do not bid on this window card because of its condition defects, it may be quite some time before you see this window card offered again!
