An Original Vintage Theatrical Autographed Deluxe 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Movie Still (Learn More) Basil Rathbone was a popular English stage and screen actor from the 1920s to the 1960s. He is best remembered for playing Sherlock Holmes in the popular series beginning in 1939. Some of his other movies include: The Adventures of Robin Hood, A Tale of Two Cities, The Court Jester (in which he played a comic version of the role he had played many years earlier in Robin Hood), Captain Blood, Son of Frankenstein (in the title role), The Mark of Zorro, The Dawn Patrol, Romeo & Juliet (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film) and If I Were King (nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for this film) to name a few! He passed away in 1967 at the age of 75. Important Added Info: Note that this still has been personally autographed (signed) by Basil Rathbone! Also note that this is a deluxe still printed on double weight paper stock. Note that this item was consigned to us by a man who was a major movie memorabilia dealer from the 1980s on. During that time, he would regularly purchase collections of movie memorabilia from both dealers and collectors, and in some of those collections he purchased autographed items, and over the years he did not re-sell any of the autographed items. Now he has gathered up together all of his autographed items and consigned them to us. So all of the items from this consignor we are auctioning were purchased by this dealer from longtime dealers and collectors, and we feel it is quite likely that the autograph on this item is authentic! Condition: fair to good. The still was framed and there was brown paper tape on the back of each border, and it came in contact with moisture, which caused brown stains down the left of the still.
