Date Sold 6/23/2020Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. A 1942 Re-Release Theatrical Folded Insert Movie Poster (measures 14" x 36" [36 x 91 cm]) (Learn More) S.S. Van Dine's The Kennel Murder Case, the 1933 Michael Curtiz detective mystery crime murder thriller starring William Powell (billed as "William Powell returns as Philo Vance in S.S. Van Dine's The Kennel Murder Case"), Mary Astor, Eugene Pallette, Ralph Morgan, Helen Vinson, Jack La Rue, Paul Cavanagh, Robert McWade, Charles C. Wilson, Arthur Hohl, and Robert Barrat. Note that William Powell first played Philo Vance in 1929's "The Canary Murder Case" and after the character proved very popular, he followed it the next year with "The Greene Murder Case", after which Basil Rathbone took over the role that same year in "The Bishop Murder Case". After Powell played Vance again in "The Benson Murder Case" (which was also made in a Spanish language version with an entirely different case), he then played him one more time in "The Kennel Murder Case" in 1933, but the character also appeared in ten more movies between 1934 and 1947, with other actors in the lead roles. NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this 1942 re-release insert is an extremely rare poster. We have only auctioned one in all our years of auctioning and that was in 2013, and we have NEVER auctioned a 1933 first release poster of any kind, only lobby cards and stills! Note also that this poster was folded at one time but has been laying flat for a long time and will be sent rolled in a tube. Condition: good. The poster has two extra horizontal folds, both of which are around 1/2" above the regular top folds with some creases above part of the bottom fold. It had a 10" tear in the center of the bottom border that has tape on the back. There are some smudges and faint stains scattered though the poster, more so in the light-colored areas, with some pinholes around the edges. One could certainly dispaly this ultra rare poster as it is, or one might choose to have restoration performed. Learn More about condition grades
