An Original Vintage Linenbacked World War I Poster (measures 22 3/4" x 35 1/4" [58 x 90 cm]) (Learn More)

Register June 5th, the 1917 U.S. World War I (WWI) military recruitment poster ("'A great day of patriotic devotion and obligation.' -Woodrow Wilson") encouraging men to enlist in the military, and featuring Arthur William Colen of Uncle Sam holding a pen in front of a cheering crowd. Note that after a national volunteer recruitment drive only attracted a fraction of the 1,000,000 troops considered necessary for overseas service, Congress quickly approved the Selective Service Act of 1917, which instituted a national draft. June 5th was designated National Registration Day, and all male Americans between the ages of 21 and 31 were required to register for military service.
