An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Chapter #15 (Superman Saves the Universe) One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Atom Man vs. Superman, the 1950 Spencer Gordon Bennet comic book superhero serial ("Trapped by deadly fumes"; "Bomb of Death!"; "The Man of Steel strikes!"; "Blasted in the Sky!"; "Kryptonite renders Superman helpless!"; "High-tension death-trap!"; "Based on the Superman adventure feature appearing in Superman and Action Comics magazines coast to coast. Adapted from the Superman radio program."; based on the famous DC Comics comic book character) starring Kirk Alyn (in the title role as Superman/Clark Kent), Lyle Talbot (in the title role as Lex Luthor/The Atom Man), Noel Neill (who later repeated her role as Lois Lane in the TV series, after Phyllis Coates left the show), Tommy Bond (as Jimmy Olsen), Pierre Watkin (as Perry White), and Terry Frost. Note that this was the second Superman serial (the first was simply titled "Superman", and was released in 1948, with the same actors as in this serial). NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. Artist: Glenn Cravath Important Added Info: Note that, for unknown reasons, almost every example of a one-sheet from this movie that has survived is in much lesser condition! It is likely because of the paper stock that was used. It must have had a very high acid content, because the surviving posters I have seen all have turned a pretty dark brown, and all are extremely fragile, and many have much paper loss. It is obviously very sad, because these are some of the coolest comic book character posters there are, but one needs to accept this, because finding one in excellent unrestored condition might take you the rest of your life! Also note that on one-sheets for this film, the "Copyright 1950 National Comics Publications Inc." below the art of Superman in flight, can be mistaken for "1960" in the image of the poster because of the small print and the font used. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. Like most examples of this poster, it was darkened and quite fragile. It had many tears and areas of paper loss scattered down the vertical fold, and a lesser amount on the horizontal folds. Overall, the poster was in fair to good condition prior to linenbacking. A talented restorer did a nice job of linenbacking it, and the poster now displays really well, but you can see slight signs of the restoration, especially from close up.
