An Original Vintage Linenbacked World War I Poster (measures 20 1/4" x 30" [51 x 76 cm]) (Learn More) And They Thought We Couldn't Fight, the 1919 U.S. post-World War I (WWI) War Bond poster ("Victory Liberty Loan") encouraging civilians to purchase war bonds (to help pay for the huge debts incurred during the war), and featuring Clyde Forsythe art of a rifle-wielding, wounded U.S. soldier holding three German helmets as trophies Artist: Clyde Forsythe Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had a horizontal fold that ran through the soldier's knees, and there were some creases and tears along that fold. There was another horizontal fold 5" from the bottom of the poster and an 8" tear near the center of the bottom border. There were pinholes, tears, and some paper loss around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good condition prior to linenbacking. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects.
