She was Warner Bros. leading female star throughout the late 1930s, and she continued as a major star throughout the 1940s, and she had one of her greatest triumphs, All About Eve (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), in 1950. She refused to retire, and took out a famous ad in Variety seeking work (citing her two Oscars!), and she starred in What Ever Happened To Baby Jane? (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film) and Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte in the 1960s. Some of her other movies include: Dangerous (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Jezebel (winner of the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Now, Voyager (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Of Human Bondage, Star (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Mr. Skeffington (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Little Foxes (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Letter (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film), Dark Victory (nominated for the Best Actress Academy Award for this film) and too many others to list! She passed away in 1989 at the age of 81. AND Joan Blondell was a popular Warner Bros. actress from the 1930s to the 1980s, often in movies with James Cagney. She was born "Rose Joan Blondell" in 1906, and under the name "Rosebud Blondell" she won the 1926 Miss Dallas pageant and placed fourth for Miss America in Atlantic City that same year. Placed under contract by Warners in 1930, she moved to Hollywood where studio boss Jack Warner wanted her to change her name to "Inez Holmes", but Blondell refused. She appeared in lots of Warner Bros movies of the 1930s, and she helped define what "pre-Code" means! She also was one of the very few sexy actresses who not only did not die young, but she also successfully transitioned to character roles, and she had significant character roles in all the decades from the 1940s through the late 1970s! Some of her movies include: Nightmare Alley, The Public Enemy, Footlight Parade, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, Blue Veil (nominated for the Best Supporting Actress Academy Award for this film), and Blonde Crazy. She passed away in 1979 at the age of 73. Important Added Info: Note that a knowledgeable collector tells us that this image was originally from 1932's Three on a Match, but was repurposed to promote Stage Struck and Mountain Justice. Bette Davis did not end up appearing in Mountain Justice, as she dropped out of the film (and others) and sailed to England to accept a film offer from producer Alexander Korda, which led a big breach of contract suit between Davis and Warner Bros.
