Date Sold 5/7/2024Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Jumbo Window Card (WC; measures 22" x 28" [56 x 71 cm]) (Learn More) the 1940 double-bill release ("Double thrill election show"; "Every Wed. 'Bankroll' free cash"; "Late show election eve and election nite"; "Election results announced") of Stranger on the Third Floor, the 1940 Boris Ingster murder mystery crime film noir (about a newspaper reporter who is the sole witness to a murder, and his testimony convicts a man of that crime, but he becomes doubtful as to whether he is 100% sure that he identified the right man!) starring Peter Lorre, John McGuire, Margaret Tallichet, Charles Waldron, Elisha Cook Jr., and Charles Halton. Note that the man falsely convicted of murder is played by Elisha Cook Jr., and that Peter Lorre, who is the real murderer, does not give his first line of dialog until 10 minutes before the end of the movie, and yet he received top billing! Also note that this was clearly one of the first film noir movies, and yet it is rarely mentioned, even though it is an excellent movie, and of great historical significance! AND Charlie Chan at the Wax Museum (re-titled to "Murder In The Wax Museum" for this double-bill), the 1940 Lynn Shores Asian detective mystery crime thriller ("Death strikes four times in 18 eerie minutes"; "Death in the electric chair faces Charlie Chan...at the hands of a murderer twelve years dead!"; "Based on the character 'Charlie Chan' created by Earl Derr Biggers") starring Sidney Toler (in the title role as Charlie Chan), Victor Sen Yung (as Jimmy Chan; billed as "Sen Yung"), C. Henry Gordon, Marc Lawrence, Joan Valerie, Marguerite Chapman, Ted Osborne (billed as "Ted Osborn"), and Charles Wagenheim. Note that the very first Charlie Chan movie was "House Without a Key" in 1925, with George Kuwa as Chan. In 1927, "The Chinese Parrot" (directed by Paul Leni) starred Sojin Kamiyama as Chan. In 1929 came the third movie, "Behind That Curtain", starring E.L. Park as Charlie Chan. 1931 brought "Charlie Chan Carries On", starring Warner Oland in the first of many movies with him as the Asian detective, and he was later replaced by Sidney Toler and then Roland Winters (there would ultimately be 47 Charlie Chan movies!). Of course, Charlie Chan is one of the most memorable literary creations ever, from author Earl Derr Biggers, but because politically correct-minded people have viewed the character as outdated, the movies are rarely shown, which is a shame! Note that the presidential election was held on Tuesday, November 5th NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that movie paper from this double bill showing (see above) is incredibly rare. It was shown the night of federal elections, and this poster could only be used for that single night, so that certainly explains why it is incredibly rare (and there may have been no other posters created for this one-night double-bill). We have never auctioned even a single movie paper item from it until we were consigned this jumbo window card! Note also that this poster can't possible rolled and it will need to be sent in a very large package that measures approximately 24" x 30" so bear this added expense in mind before bidding. Condition: good. The poster has darkened and there are some stains and smudges scattered throughout, more so around the edges. Learn More about condition grades
