Date Sold 12/8/2016Sold For: Login or Register to see sold price. An Original Vintage Theatrical Folded One-Sheet Movie Poster (1sh; measures 27" x 41" [69 x 104 cm]) (Learn More) Crime School, the 1938 Lewis Seiler juvenile delinquent reform school crime melodrama ("Where today's kids are turned into tomorrow's killers"; "From a story by Crane Wilbur"; a sequel of sorts to the immensely popular "Dead End"; these movies were so successful that they spawned dozens more sequels and spin-offs) starring Humphrey Bogart, Gale Page, The Dead End Kids (Billy Halop, Bobby Jordan, Leo Gorcey, Gabriel Dell, Huntz Hall, and Bernard Punsley), Charles Trowbridge, Spencer Charters, Donald Briggs, and Cy Kendall (as the warden). Note that this movie was a remake of "The Mayor of Hell", a 1933 James Cagney movie, and it was remade yet again just one year later as "Hell's Kitchen" with Ronald Reagan (apparently the public did not grow tired of this plot in the 1930s!). Also note that this was the second movie with the "Dead End Kids" who had great success in 1937's "Dead End", where they had also co-starred with Humphrey Bogart! NOTE: Click on linked names to see a biography. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that this one-sheet is rarely offered for sale. We have only auctioned one example of it in the past, and that was 19 years ago! Note that all but 28 of the folded one-sheets in this Part I of eMoviePoster.com's December Major Auction were consigned to us by legendary French dealer/collector Dominique Besson. Dominique Besson started collecting movie posters in 1981, and became a dealer in French and European posters in 1994, and has remained as a top dealer ever since! But in addition, 30 years ago, Dominique began collecting U.S. one-sheets, first those with Saul Bass art, and then adding Alfred Hitchcock posters, then Humphrey Bogart, and he finally ended up collecting in an amazing total of 47 different categories, purchasing the posters from all over the world! Now the time has come to sell this wonderful collection, and Dominique has chosen eMoviePoster.com to do so, through our auctions! As noted above, all but 28 of the folded one-sheets in this Part I come from this more remarkable collection (the 28 that do not were consigned to us by other collectors, and are clearly marked). This is not all of the Dominique Besson collection we are auctioning. In addition, there are approximately 200 more folded one-sheets that will be in Part IV of this special auction (ones from the 1970s to present), and there are approximately 100 unfolded one-sheets that will be in Part III (including many great ones). This is a very rare opportunity to purchase folded one-sheets (all of which have had no professional restoration) from one of the greatest one-sheet collections assembled! Note that this one-sheet is from the category that Dominique Besson collected on that he labeled "Humphrey Bogart". Condition: very good. The top 1/4" was folded back and stapled at one time, and there is darkening and tiny pairs of staple holes in that area (only blank white paper is affected). The bottom 1/2" was folded back. There is a 1/2" tear near the middle of that area. That part of the bottom border has not darkened, but the rest of the bottom blank border has slightly darkened and has a few faint stains. There is tiny separation at the crossfolds and two tiny pinholes in the top center of the poster, in Punsley's hair. There is a tiny black dot below Bogart's eye. There is slight wear on the folds and some faint creases scattered throughout the poster. The poster can absolutely be displayed and enjoyed as it is, or one could choose to have the above defects corrected through linenbacking. Either way, the new owner will have a wonderful poster to display on their wall! Learn More about condition grades
