The company's lion trademark was created in 1858. At first they were a steelworks (creating eating utensils and hydraulic equipment), but started manufacturing bicycles in 1882. The company eventually expanded to other modes of transportation, and during World War I (WWI), Peugeot built nearly 63,000 bicycles per year, as well as 9,000 cars and trucks, 1,000 motorcycles and 10,000 plane engines. In 1926, the auto and bicycle manufacturing divisions at Peugeot were divided. Automobiles were constructed at Automobiles Peugeot, while bicycles were made at Cycles Peugeot. If you know who did the art (if any), please let us know. Important Added Info: Note that we have never before auctioned this French poster! What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had scuffs and fine surface paper loss on parts of the folds, with creases, scuffs, and some small tears around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. Someone many years ago had it mounted to a thin linen, and there are tack holes around the edges of the excess linen. The poster could be displayed as it is, or certainly, one could remove it from the thin linen and have it properly re-backed, but that will be the choice of the new owner of this really cool and rare poster.
