An Original Vintage Theatrical Linenbacked Australian Daybill Movie Poster (db; measures 14 3/4" x 39 3/4" [37 x 101 cm]) (Learn More) The Eagle's Feather, the 1923 Edward Sloman silent romantic cowboy western melodrama ("An action story of the West that is different - absorbing - thrilling - pulsating - romantic."; "With a notable cast") starring James Kirkwood, Mary Alden, Lester Cuneo, Elinor Fair, and George Siegmann. Note that Lester Cuneo had been a major comedy star at the Selig Studio in 1912, but after just a few movies, he chose to re-invent himself as a cowboy star, and had success there as well, also playing dramatic roles at the same time. He served in World War I (WWI), and returned to Hollywood and again began making westerns, playing a character billed as "The Smiling Daredevil". But by the early 1920s, his westerns were less and less successful, and after a series of personal and professional failures, Cuneo could not get any parts at all, and he committed suicide in 1925. Note that this is one of an amazing collection of 62 linenbacked Australian daybills that all have great art from Richardson Studio (or John Richardson, before he became "Richardson Studio"!), which many collectors feel have the best art and design of any Australian daybills, and are highly sought after by collectors. These were accumulated by a very dedicated collector over many years, and they are now being all offered at once (in 62 separate auctions), so this is a wonderful opportunity to obtain one or many of these daybills, many of which rarely are offered for sale or at auction. What IS linenbacking? Learn More Overall Condition and Pre-Restoration Defects with Quality of Restoration: good to very good. The poster had some creases and scuffs scattered throughout, with minor wear on the folds. It had small circular paper loss in the top blank area. It had just a few tears around the edges. Overall, the poster was in good to very good condition prior to linenbacking. The restorer backed the poster "in the European style", meaning that they did not do restoration to the defects described above. Learn More about condition grades
