An Autographed 8" x 10" [20 x 25 cm] Publicity Still (Learn More) Mel Torme (born Melvin Howard Torme) was a singer from the 1940s to the 1990s who appeared in a few movies. He was born in 1925, and was singing since he was 3, and was a musical prodigy. As a teenager he played the drums in Chico Marx's band, and in the early 1940s he formed his own group, "The Meltones", and went solo in the late 1940s. His first acting role was in the 1943 Frank Sinatra movie, "Higher and Higher", when he was just 18. He also wrote several books including biographies of Judy Garland and Buddy Rich, and he also wrote popular music, including The Christmas Song. He had a legendary smooth voice, and he was nicknamed "The Velvet Fog"! Torme passed away in 1999 at the age of 73. Important Added Info: Note that this still has been personally autographed (signed) by Mel Torme! Note that this signed item is from the estate of Gino Empry, who was a legendary Toronto publicist and agent from the early 1960s through the early 2000s (he passed away in 2006). He had publicity photos of celebrities he worked with that were personalized to him and signed attached to his walls, and many of those were consigned to us, and while we have no certificate of authenticity, we are 100% certain they are authentic (although many have some damage that was caused by their being attached to a wall or being roughly removed). Also note that many celebrities kept multiple 8" x 10" (or smaller) copies of good publicity images of themselves to sign for fans, and also many memorabilia shops sold such copy stills themselves. While they are not original theater-used stills, they are usually excellent clear copies, with a great shot of that celebrity in their heyday, which, when signed by the celebrity, makes for a wonderful framed picture on any fan's wall! As is true of all the signed items we are currently auctioning, we give every buyer 30 days in which to review what they purchased and they can return any item as long as it is within 30 days of the end of the auction. On non-signed items, we give a "lifetime guarantee" on everything we auction, but on signed items, we give the above modified guarantee of 30 days after the auction closes. Condition: good.
